Humane Society
Fundraiser--Tuscan Nights
September 18, 2010
There are two ways to enjoy an evening amidst the ambience and lights of
Tuscany.
Fly to Italy via jet when you have lots of time and money. Or let yourself be taken away to the Tuscan Nights in Goodlettsville, a much shorter, less expensive, yet very worthwhile alternative.
But you’ll still be able to get away from it all as you stroll on the tree-lined lawn of Thistletop Inn as you join the Humane Society of Sumner County with its September 18 fundraiser where $25 gets you dinner, soft drinks, and a breath of Tuscany. There will also be a cash wine bar available.
Listen to the soft piano music accompanied by live jazz played by Teresa Collier while you select your Italian delights from inside the rustic hideaway visited by the likes of Johnny Cash, Trisha Yearwood, and Tammy Wynette. After selecting your Tuscan and Italian delights such as Fava Bean Dip with Parmesan Tortilla Chips or Meatballs in Marinara Sauce among many choices, select your dessert from many tasty items by caterer and Movable Feast’s Elaine O’Day, also a board member for the Humane Society of Sumner County.
Dinner will be enjoyed outside under tents illuminated with soft lights under the trees of Thistletop where you will also be able to stroll among the vendors and enjoy many sales there. For $25 per person, dinner and soft drinks are included. Tickets are available online or by calling (615) 394-8903.

Steeple Players Presents Family Favorite,
Little Women: the Musical
September 16-26, 2010
Opening its 2010-11 Season, Steeple Players present Little Women: the Musical on September 16-26. Performances are on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 7:30, Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 2:00 and special Sunday evening performances at 6:30.
Little Women is based on Louisa May Alcott’s timeless tale with book by Allan Knee, music by Jason Howland and lyrics by Mindi Dickstein. America’s most beloved sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March, come to life in this musical about the power of family, friendship and romance. An entire new generation will fall in love with this classic story designed for the whole family.
“The music in Little Women is spectacular,” stated director David Barton. “It reminds me a lot of the music from another fabulous musical, Wicked.” Barton has just finished touring the country with Networks Productions’ National Tour of Annie as “Daddy Warbucks.” He is delighted to be returning home to direct this very special production.
“After three years of going to work as an actor, it is amazingly refreshing to work with a group of exceptional performers who ply their craft just for the fun of it,” Barton continued proudly. “Doing professional theatre has only increased my appreciation of the ‘amateur’ performer. Many of the performers in this production of Little Women are every bit as talented as the professionals I have worked with over the past few years.”
The performers for this production come from across the Greater Nashville area. Many of Nashville area schools are represented in the cast, with performers from Aaron Academy, Hendersonville, Beech, John Paul II, White House Heritage, and Hume-Fogg High Schools, Ellis Middle School, and Merrol Hyde and Martin Luther Magnet Schools.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for persons over 65 and $10 for children and students. Group rates are available for groups of 10 and more. To purchase tickets, call the Steeple Players box office at 615-826-6037 or visit www.steepleplayers.org. Seating is reserved and limited, so reservations are strongly encouraged.
Steeple Players recommends Little Women for children 4 years and older and for adults of all ages. This is one show that everyone in the family can enjoy!
Steeple Players is a 501(c)3 non-profit community theatre located at 260 West Main Street in the City Square Shopping Center in Hendersonville Tennessee. It has presented family-oriented theatre to the local and surrounding communities for over 15 years.

Host an AFS Exchange Student!
AFS Intercultural Programs is a non-profit organization that places exchange
students into homes all around the world, including in Middle Tennessee.
Host families basically accept an exchange student from another country into
their home for 11 months. The student attends your local high school
and learns about life in the United States firsthand. This is a truly
amazing experience for both the exchange student and the host family. Please

Donors Choose is a national, non-profit organization designed to help teachers get needed supplies for their classrooms. Teachers submit proposals to Donors Choose, and Donors Choose reviews the requests and places them on their web site. At this point, any individual in the world can search the database for proposals they would like to fund in whole or in part. Once the project is fully funded, Donors Choose ships the requested supplies directly to the teacher. The teacher sends a thank-you letter [through Donors Choose] to the donor who completed the funding on his/her proposal. In addition, the teacher sends thank-you letters from each student along with photos of the class using the donated supplies. It's actually quite fun to see how this works! Donors Choose has just opened their program to teachers in Tennessee. We encourage teachers in Hendersonville and surrounding areas to submit proposals to Donors Choose! |
